About The Teacher
Hello everyone, I thought it might be fun to go out on a limb here and tell you a little bit about my "TOP SECRET" life outside of the classroom. First of all, I was a student at Simon Lake school from 5th grade through 8th grade then I went to Jonathan Law High School. After high school I received two undergraduate degrees from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU); a BS in Elementary Education and a BA in studio art. I did part of my student teaching in Milford (5th grade at Mathewson) and was hired shortly there after. After 5 years of procrastinating, I returned to SCSU to earn a Masters degree in Elementary Education. I taught fifth grade at Mathewson for ten wonderful years. The 2017-2018 school year marks my 8th year at Meadowside and I'm really thankful to be part of such a dedicated staff of educators. I recently completed a sixth year degree in Educational Leadership at Quinnipiac University - my long-term goal is to transfer my years of classroom instructional experience into a whole school serving students as a principal.
When I am not teaching, learning, correcting papers, or writing, I enjoy spending quality time with my wife (Deborah), our 9-year old daughter (Stella) and our 6-year old daughter (Claudia). I also love reading, gardening, coaching girls softball, painting, and riding my bicycle. Well I think that's about it...of course it's not but I do think it's enough to demonstrate I don't spend 24-hours a day, 7-days a week in Room 23!
"A great teacher is one who says something you won't understand until ten years later."(Julius Lester)
Mission For The Class
The students of Room 23 are expected to do their best in attempts to learn as much as possible during the 2017-2018 school year. They will accomplish this by following directions, paying attention, working cooperatively, participating in class discussions, completing all classwork/homework, and most importantly, having fun while while learning!
As your teacher, I assume the responsibility of sharing my love for learning with you. It is my hope that as the school year passes and you mature that you will begin to appreciate the satisfying process of learning and as a result you will become a joyful lifelong learner. I can't tell you it will be easy but I can assure you that I will do everything possible to help you be successful.
"I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think."(Socrates)
