As OHS Eagles,
We care for each other,
and never settle for less than our best!
PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE FANCY NOTEBOOKS,
FOLDERS, BINDERS, ETC. for your child. They
are expensive and I have already ordered every-
thing your student will need. It's my treat! I use
color-coded resources to help with organization.
It will be easier for your child and for me if every
-one uses the same tools! I purchase the first set
of pencils, erasers, pencil boxes, notebooks,
scissors, glue, tape, crayons, folders,
etc. for each child. After those are used up or
lost, I appreciate it when parents replace sup-
plies. There is no obligation to do so :) Children
often like to have their own supply of markers,
extra crayons, pens, etc. for their personal use.
We can always use extra pencils, non toxic wipes
for desks, tissue boxes, baggies in assorted sizes.
Frequently asked questions:
Is there homework every night?
Check the homework section of this web site for further
information. On rare occasions, if we have a test, a specialassembly or trip, there will be no homework, otherwise, assume there is. If your child forgets their folder pleaseread a book from home. They may make up the homework the next day.
May I send in birthday treats?
Due to our school policy, no edible treats may be brought in toschool tocelebrate birthdays. At JFK, we have a growing
population of students with severe food allergies. Ingesting the wrongfood could even be fatal to some students. For the safety and protectionof all our children, please do not send in food for parties in school. Youmay send in a non-edible treatsuch as stickers, pencils, pads, or books.Or we can arrange for you to make a craft with our class, or share a favoritebook. Contact me with your suggestion and we will work together to make it happen! Are there opportunities to volunteer inthe classroom?
Yes, I often look for parent volunteers for special projects,
field trips or for on going activities. If you are interested in
helping drop me a note! Field trips always require help in theform of parent chaperones. I try to share the wealth and giveevery interested family a chance to chaperone in rotation. If Icannot find enough chaperones for a particular trip you may
be able to go on a second trip with us.If you would like to serve as a Mystery Reader, or share a specialtalent, custom or tradition, please email me.
Do I need to call the school if my child will be absent?
If your child is sick, please call the school to report that your
child will not be in school that day. You may leave a messageif the answering machine picks up. A note is required when yourchild returns to school. This needs to be done even though youhave called school to report your child's absence. Absences aretallied and recorded on report cards.
