Mrs. Rogers Biography

Welcome to 5th grade!!! I look forward to starting a new school year. I hope you had a restful and exciting summer and are ready to take on 5th grade. My goal is that you will leave elementary school with a love of learning. School is not all text books and work. There are so many new subjects that you will learn and explore. Many of the activities will be hands on experiences.

Did you know that American history is filled with exciting stories and interesting people? This year I will introduce you to a few of them. In science, you'll explore the sun and moon. I can guarantee you will read at least 50 books. Many of you will read more than 100. You'll discover that writing in an amazing way to express who you are. There are so many ways to solve a math problem. Some of the tricks you will use to figure out math is like a puzzle. School can be an amazing place to learn about the world.

Believe it or not, I don't live in school. First and foremost, outside of school, I am a mom. I have two very active kids, Nate and Grace. Nate is 14 and going to high school this year. His passion is lacrosse, wrestling, Boy scouts and hanging with his friends. This summer he went to New Mexico and did trail maintenance in the desert with his boy scout troop. It was an amazing experience. Grace is 11 and going into 6th grade. She is competitive gymnast. She competes on a team through a gym called the Nutmeg Twisters. She is currently on level 6. She will likely move up to level 7 this year. She spends much of her free time at the gym. It has become her home away from home. She has big dreams and wants to be on the 2016 olympic team. Hey, you never know.

I love all things outdoors. I enjoy taking hikes with the family and spending my free days at the beach. I spend a lot of my time down at the shore kyaking, swimming, cookouts, walking or my favorite, hunting for seaglass. I also have a passion for travel. I find it exciting to explore new cities, states or countries. This summer Mr. Rogers and I spent a weekend in Philadelphia, PA. It's a great city to explore our nations history. As a family, we spent some time poking around trendy spots in Brooklyn, NY.

I have been teaching for 9 years. I taught 2nd grade at Mathewson for 5 years.  I have been at Calf Pen Meadow since 2009. I really enjoy this school and I love teaching 5th grade.

I spent much of my summer in school. Sounds awful right? Actually, I loved it. I completed another degree called a 6th year. Through my degree, I learned many new and innovative ways to be a stronger teacher.

I look forward to meeting you. It's going to be a great year. You can always email me at drogers@milforded.org.
