Dear Mathewson Families,
I am excited to begin my second year here as your Mathewson Principal and am thrilled to meet our new incoming kindergarteners and welcome back our first and second grade students. This year there are some new changes in places and faces at our school. We have enhanced our TOP Dog program. We also are starting a new PAWfolio program which is a way for us to show you Progress of Academic Work over the course of the year. Mark your calendars as our Mathewson Open House will be from 6:30-8:00 pm on September 17th. Our first round of Parent Teacher Conferences are October 2nd, 3rd & 4th. As you can see, we are off to a busy start!
For the 2013-2014 school year, we are pleased to announce that we have a second computer lab in our building. With this additional technology, we are ready to increase computer opportunities for your children. We are also pleased to announce that each classroom has had tremendous boosts to their classroom libraries and we have created a Guided Reading closet (over the 2012-2013 school year). This will further strengthen our children's literacy program. This focus on enhancing our literacy supplies is vital as we feel that having choice in reading and volumes of material is imperative for growing readers.
With the addition of a school greeter, we also have some new sign-in and out procedures for our school. These are posted at our greeter station, where everyone must stop by when entering the building. It is important to know that identification will be required until our greeter gets to know you. Although this may seem an inconvenience, it is an important safety measure. Everyone will be required to wear a visitor pass at all times in the building, and must sign out when they leave. Like everything, this is a process and so it will take time before it becomes efficient. We all appreciate your patience, and your children appreciate the sense of safety it brings them.
Let's have a PAWsitive year.
