Welcome to Mathewson School

Hello and Welcome to Mathewson School!

At our school we take great pride in celebrating each child as an individual learner, highlighting their strengths throughout the day in many ways.  Through the use of Common Core State Standards and differentiated instruction our dedicated and talented staff helps to ensure that each learner is challenged and engaged in purposeful real world learning experiences.

We also recognize that a huge piece of learning is recognizing the social and emotional development of each learner. Therefore at our school we have our TOP DOG program which helps to discuss what it means to be a member of a community of learners and future citizens. Throughout the course of the year this program helps tie in our character education expectations as well as positive behavior supports that identifies positive was we take care of our community, ourselves and our school.  Students will receive “paw prints” throughout the year to help demonstrate one of the many ways they have helped our community. This program is currently in its third year of implementation and helps to strengthen our home school connection by utilizing take home books, school assemblies and a PAWfolio (Portfolio of Academic Work) that is specific to each child.

We are very pleased to have an active PTA organization which also supports our learners social and academic needs of our school. This year we are pleased to announce that we have a new sound system, iPads for our Art program as well as document cameras to help enhance our classroom learning. Previously they have also purchased a Smart Board to help making learning more engaging for the students at Mathewson. Please be sure to use our website to find out about the many great social events that they help support as well!

Please be sure to check our website for important information that is updated throughout the year.  You can also find links to our Weekly and Monthly publication (The Mathewson Monitor) where you can learn about all thinks Mathewson. Be sure your email is updated on Power School to receive the weekly email as well. We look forward to you becoming part of the Mathewson family, or being a returning member. We believe “it take a village” to help build our future scientists, mathematics, writers and authors and are happy you will help us celebrate your child’s achievements with us.

Best wishes for a PAWsitive year from everyone on the Mathewson staff!
