Foran's DeSousa, Mendillo, and Ardrey Sign National Letters of Intent for Collegiate Athletic Play

MILFORD – The Milford Public School district is pleased to announce three students at Joseph A. Foran High School have signed National Letters of Intent to continue athletic play in college. The students attended a special signing event at Foran this week, among a large contingent of invited family and friends.

Hannah DeSousa, University of Rhode Island, located in Kingston, RI.

Hannah DeSousa, daughter of Dan and Marybeth DeSousa of Milford, signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at the University of Rhode Island. URI is a member of the NCAA Div. I – Northeast Region/Atlantic 10 Conference. Miss DeSousa will serve as an infield/utility player for the Rams, beginning with their 2017-18 season.

Hannah got her start in softball by playing with the Milford International Little League (MILL) program, as well as the Babe Ruth league, as an infielder. She later played with the Connecticut Charmers travel team under the guidance of coach Neil Swanchack. At Foran, she played for former head coach Jeff Bevino and current head coach Stephanie Dawid.

Hannah plans to major in Political Science at URI, hoping to work someday in small government.

"It's so nice to see that all the hard work and dedication pays off in the end," Hannah commented. "I can't wait to get started and am looking forward to my education at URI. Go Rams!"

Amanda Mendillo, Southern New Hampshire University, located in Manchester, NH.

Daughter of Donald and Michele Mendillo of Milford, Amanda Mendillo signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire. SNHU is a member of the NCAA Div. II, East Region/Northeast-10 Conference. Amanda will join the Penmen as both a utility infielder and outfielder to start in the 2017-18 season. Much of her experience thus far has been in the positions of shortstop, center field, and 2nd base.

Amanda also gained experience in the travel team arena as a player on the Connecticut Seahawks, under the direction of coach Paul Crisci, and has attended many softball showcase tournaments over the years. She also played for Bevino and Dawid.

Amanda plans to pursue a degree in Elementary Education at SNHU, hoping to become a teacher.

"Never give up!" Amanda commented, when asked about the journey so far. "It is truly wonderful to know that all the work you put in ends up paying off down the road."

Jack Ardrey, Southern New Hampshire University, located in Manchester, NH.

Jack Ardrey, son of Doug and Jennifer Ardrey of Milford, signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross country at Southern New Hampshire University. SNHU is a member of the NCAA Div. II, East Region/Northeast-10 Conference. Mr. Ardrey's expertise is in long-distance running. Jack will run for SNHU beginning with the 2017-18 season.

Jack has participated in dozens of local 5K races as well as the Joseph A. Foran Cross Country and Track teams, under the guidance of Coach Dick Jeynes.

Jack plans to pursue a degree in Marketing at SNHU. He hopes someday to work in the field of Sales/Marketing.

"It feels great to have accomplished this at this point in my life!" Jack said. "It's really good to see that all that time spent running and learning about my sport has paid off in this way. I can't wait to get started at SNHU."

Foran's Athletic Director Anthony Vitelli commented, "I have known all three of these student-athletes since they entered Foran in 9th Grade. I have watched them work hard with every passing season – and I've watched them get better and better every year. I am very proud of them and wish them much success in the future."
