Homework Policy

Homework is an extension of the work we do in class.  Homework also teaches your child to take responsibility for his or her education.  It is important that you encourage and promote good homework habits at home.  It is also just as important that you allow your child to complete his or her assignments with as little help as possible.  These assignments are meant to reinforce skills and concepts taught in class and are never supposed to frustrate or aggravate your child.  If this is the case please be sure to write me a note so that I can address the issue in class the next day. If homework is handed in incomplete or messy the assignment will be sent back home to be completed along with the regular assigned homework for that night.  Typically, your child will have homework nightly including reading, math, and spelling/language arts.

Math-

  • Worksheet/workbook page practicing lesson taught that day or a review from a previous lesson.
  • Practice your Math Facts!

Reading-

  • A leveled book is expected to be read nightly for 20 minutes and recorded into assignment pad.  This even counts on holidays and snowdays.  80 minutes of reading is expected each week.

*Long term projects will also be assigned throughout the year in addition to the regular homework.

Students will be expected to write their homework assignments in their assignment pads each morning.  An assignment will never be sent home without a full explanation of what is to be done.

I do understand that busy schedules and unexpected events come up and prevent your child from doing his or her homework.  If that is the case, please send in a note so that I can make other arrangements with your child.

** Parents ** Missing assignments will be noted in your child's assignment pad.
