This page is going to be where I share information about what is going on in our classroom including special assignments, school events, and what we are working on.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful and relaxing winter break. Please don't forget to read and practice your multiplication and division facts so you are ready when we come back in 2017! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
Hello Room 10 Families,
I just wanted to give you a quick update on what you can be practicing at home. As you know, your children are expected to read for homework each night. You should always encourage them to talk to you about their book or write about it in a notebook. You also can have them free write about a topic of their choice. For math, our class is very excited to be learning about multiplication and division. You can continue practicing the addition and subtraction facts to keep those fresh, but they now can also practice multiplication. Right now they are learning this with skip counting or repeated addition. Lastly, they should continue their typing pal practice until they finish and if they are interested they can continue coding at home which they learned in media. Thank you so much for your support at home!
Hello Room 10,
I hope you all are enjoying your day off for Election Day! I just wanted to post a blog for a few reminders at home. For homework each night, there is an expectation that you read 20 minutes and log this in your planner. Please remember that you should use this information to fill out your Reading at home COWnts monthly graph. You also should be practicing your addition and subtraction facts at home as much as you can each week. A great way to do this is go on to fastt math. You can find this link on the Calf Pen website under academics. Your username and password are your lunch number. This or any other math practice you do at home should be recorded in your planner and then used to fill out your Math at home COWnts monthly graph. It is also an expectation for you to practice your typing each night. Use the directions that were put in your planner. Parents, please don't forget to sign those planners each night and check take home folders so that you are aware of what's going on at CPM and in room 10. Please email me if you have any questions! Thank you for your support at home!
I'm so excited for our new school year to have started! I hope everyone takes some time to check out our class website and checks back in regularly. Also, make sure to sign up for eNotify for when I send out messages. Thank you!
Room 10 has welcomed some new members to our class family: crayfish and Bess beetles! Over the next few weeks, our class will be studying the structures and behaviors of these creatures. I know everyone in our class is very excited for this adventure!
Room 10 families, please come to the Family Smarter Balanced Assessment Information Session on Tuesday, April 1st at 6:00 pm in the computer lab. It's a great opportunity for your family to learn about this assessment that our students are taking. Thank you!
Our class has been working on multiplication and division for a while now. We have gotten really good at solving multiplication and division equations with skip counting. Our class has been practicing new strategies including making arrays to represent the equation and then skip counting to solve the problem. Also, you can find smaller arrays within the larger array that you already know the total for and then add those two parts together (ex. 4x6 can be 2x6 + 2x6). Ask your child to show you our new strategies as you practice multiplication and division at home! Happy practicing!
We have about a week and a half left until our winter vacation! Where did the time go? We are all very excited about our upcoming break, but make sure to keep reading at home each night and practice those multiplication and division facts! All our hard work is paying off : )
Fastt Math is all set up for our class to practice at school and at home. Go to the links section of our class website and the first link there is for Fastt Math. Your username is your last name and first name with no spaces. Your password is your first initial and your lunch number with no spaces. Have fun!
