“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”

~Scott Adams

EXPECTATIONS: GRADES 6-8

  • BRAINSTORM multiple alternative ideas and create “rough draft” for comparison, as the first idea you come up with is rarely the most insightful or creative.

  • PERSEVERE! Do not give up when you feel “stuck” or uninspired. Keep all work to see growth.

  • Take advantage of SERENDIPITY”; find ways to learn from and/or utilize “mistakes” or “accidents” in new, novel, or insightful ways. Do not give up!

  • BE RESILIENT! Success favors the person who works to overcome a problem or challenge and does not give up. ASK QUESTIONS to clarify when you do not understand or are struggling.

  • POSSIBILITY THINKING –If you have an idea for a project that has not been discussed, share your idea; you may ask “Might it be possible to do “x” or use “y” for this project. I think I can still achieve the project’s goals this way because ____.” If key learning goals can be accomplished an alternate way, your approach will be considered or a compromise approach might be developed.

  • BE RESPECTFUL at all times to your teacher, classmates, classroom, equipment and supplies to maintain full access to projects and materials. MAKE YOUR DAY!

  • BE PRODUCTIVE: Doodling or “thinking on paper” to come up with ideas is okay; doing nothing is not okay.
