Mr. Kalafus has been a music teacher in Milford since 1996 .
He teaches General Music at West Shore Middle School where his
main focus is providing a hands-on musicial experience for his
students. His classroom has numerous keyboards and guitars
as well as a bass guitar and complete drumset. Students are
expected to learn how to play each instrument. "I want to open the
door to being a musician and I hope that my students come away from
class with a desire to play an instrument," said Kalafus.
Mr. Kalafus graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Music Education from the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport,
Connecticut. His main instrument is the guitar, but he also
plays the piano, bass, drums and has studied the saxophone. Along with
teaching at West Shore Middle School, Mr. "K" has taught
private guitars lessons since 1981 while playing in a number of
bands that have performed throughout the Northeast and the Midwest. In
1987 Mr. Kalafus spent a year in Hollywood, California performing
in bands and attending the Musician's Institute of Technology.
Currently, Mr. Kalafus plays locally with his band, "Out Of
The Blue."
