Milford Adult Education

General Policies

 

Organization
The Adult Education Program is operated by the Milford Board of Education under the provisions of the statutes of the State of Connecticut. The Milford Adult Education program is open to residents as well as non-residents who are 16 years of age and no longer enrolled in daytime school. Persons enrolled in Basic Skills, GED, ESL and Citizenship are exempt from tuition. Students who are at least 17 years old and have been withdrawn from school for six months are eligible to take the GED exam.

Waiver of Responsibility
Adult Education instructors are selected for their subject expertise. The Milford Board of Education and the Adult Education program do not promote the private services of the instructors nor endorse the companies with whom they are associated. Students are solely responsible for how the information provided in these courses applies to them.

Classes Begin
ESL classes begin Thursday, January 29, 2008 at the evening registration at Foran High School. Basic Skills, GED, and Citizenship classes begin Monday, January 28 and General Interest classes begin the week of February 25, 2008 unless otherwise noted in the list of course descriptions. Course days and times are subject to change.

Registration
All registrations must be made in advance through the Adult Education Office. PLEASE NOTE: NO walk-in registrations can be accepted by any instructor for any class; NO registration confirmation will be mailed to you (you will be notified only when a class is filled or canceled); NO children are allowed in any class at any time - Adult Education is for Adults only.

Tuition
Tuition and fees for each course appear with the course description. Non-residents must pay an additional $10.00 per course ($3.00 for any course three nights or less). Milford Senior Citizens (60 years or older) will receive a $10.00 reduction off the tuition of any course EXCEPT short courses costing $25.00 or less, or any Golf or Real Estate classes. Books and materials for all classes requiring same will be acquired by students at their own expense.

Refunds
Requests for refunds will be honored ONLY if requested prior to the first night of class. A processing fee will be deducted from the refund.

Parking
Parking is permitted only in designated areas. Do not park in fire zones, handicapped areas, or in front of any doorway. Please be considerate. Violators may be towed.

School Closings
Classes will not meet when schools are closed for holidays, vacations, or bad weather. If the weather deteriorates during a scheduled school day necessitating canceling of evening classes, an announcement will be made on local radio stations and WTNH-TV, Channel 8. WICC, 600 - AM is our primary station.

Student Regulations
Smoking in any building is prohibited. Refreshments are permitted only in the cafeteria or designated areas.

Classes are held at the site listed under the course description. All activities offered are held in accessible locations.

The administration reserves the right to limit enrollment, withdraw courses or discontinue classes at any time without notice.
